Gold Coins & Bullion
Lots of gold at very competitive prices
Nothing quite has the feel to it as old gold, and the old twenty and ten dollar gold coins are currently very popular with investors. With the premiums over the gold price now as low as they have ever been, investing in gold coins is gaining in popularity. The only problem with gold? You always want more.
U.S. Gold Eagle
Late to the party was the U.S. Gold Eagle, first minted in 1986 with a face value of $50, it is of the same weight and purity of the Krugerrand and is popular for its beautiful design.
One Ounce Gold Krugerrand
The South African one-ounce gold Krugerrand is the old king of gold bullion coins. First minted in 1967 it accounted for 90% of the global coin market by 1980. I like the K-Rand because so many were imported into the United States that resales or secondary sales of K-Rands make them always available at a better price than buying direct from a mint. Also, the K-Rand is extremely durable because of copper added to the ounce of gold so that it doesn’t scratch as easily.
Canadian Maple Leaf
The Canadian one-ounce Gold Maple Leaf was first minted in 1979 and gained popularity because of its 999% purity and its legal tender value of $50 makes it a popular choice for investors.
Chinese Gold Panda
The Chinese one-ounce Gold Panda was first minted in 1982 and is also minted in pure gold. The panda is popular with collectors as well as investors as they change the panda design every year to inspire the collectors to put together sets of pandas.
Are Different Sizes Available?
All these coins are available in fractional sizes as well, usually one tenth, one quarter, and half ounce sizes. As you cut down the size of the coin you buy the coins cost more percentage wise over the cost of the one ounce size. It makes sense as it, for example, costs more to mint ten one tenth oz. coins vs one one oz coin.
